Lake Information for Moores Lake

Map:
Description:

Moores Lakes is a 27.1 acre lake in Dover.

Fishing Description:

Although this pond often has a muddy appearance, bass were moderate to abundant in the latest survey. There are a good number of larger bass and average weights were good. The population was dominated by fish between 12 and 15 inches in 2003, but growth should have increased that to over 15 inches by now. A spring population estimate indicated that about 500 bass over 6 inches were in the pond.

A great variety and number of panfish were present in Moores Lake. Both bluegill and white perch were abundant, but pumpkinseed sunfish, black crappie, and yellow perch also provide angling opportunities. About one-third of the bluegill were over 6 inches. Crappie, especially larger individuals, were common with about 1 in 4 over 10 inches. Common carp and brown bullhead catfish (as in photo above) were also present throughout the pond.

A fish consumption advisory has been in place since 1999 to limit angler exposure to contaminants in the entire St. Jones watershed, which includes Moores Lake. The advisory suggests that anglers eat no more than two 8-oz meals of fish per year based on long-term health risks associated with eating certain quantities of fish from localized areas. The contaminants of concern are PCBs and DDT.
