Lake Information for Chimney Reservoir
Chimney Reservoir was created in 1974 in a narrow gorge just downstream from the point where the Little Humboldt River branches into the North and South Forks. The dam crest is at an elevation of 4,650 feet and stores 35,000 acre feet covering 2,150 surface acres. When full, the reservoir averages 16 feet in depth with a maximum depth of 55 feet
Camping - developed campsites can be accessed on the east shoreline. Boat launching facilities and vehicle parking is provided adjacent to the campsites. There is no charge for use of the facilities. Regular garbage service is not provided.
Fish species present include white crappie, walleye, largemouth bass, channel catfish, brown trout, carp and bluegill sunfish.
Angler Use - in 2003, 204 anglers reported fishing 744 days and capturing 1,064 fish for 1.43 fish per angler day. The Nevada Trophy Fish Program lists a 12-pound, 10-ounce channel catfish being harvested from the lake. Best Time of year to Fish - the months of March and April are the best times to fish for crappie, walleye and channel catfish. Productive Fishing Methods - standard crankbaits fished along the shoreline at depths of 3 to 8 feet work well for the bass and sunfish. Standard deepwater baits fished over structure has been most productive offshore. Approved live bait (minnows) works best for crappie. Channel catfish can be caught on worms, liver, shrimp and minnows fished on the bottom.
Perch have been on the bite. No reports on Walleye yet.
